Notes
1Cedar and Redwood extractives will
bleed through most ordinary primers. 8-230 will discolor but will prevent tannin stains from bleeding into topcoat. Severe stains may require two primer coats. For best results, apply by brush or roller.
2Allow lumber to age until extractives migrate out of wood before priming (approximately 3-6 months).
3Allow mortar, masonry and concrete to cure 60 - 90 days prior to priming.
4Severe chalk must be removed prior to application of primer.
5Grease and oil must be removed before applying primer. New galvanized metal should be etched and cleaned before primer is applied. "Baked on" enamels should be lightly sanded.
6Vinyl Siding should never be painted darker than the original color to avoid warping. New Vinyl should be aged 6 months or cleaned with M-1 Surface Prep to remove surfactants and/or residual oils and then pressure washed.
